What Is Success? Is Success Happiness?

What is success?  Is success the same for all?
Is success permanent?  Is Success Happiness?

To understand success we must first define it.  Success-Favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors;  attainment of wealth, position, honors, or the like;  favorable outcome of something attempted.

Success for one is not success for all, we set personal goals for ourselves with the hope of achieving success as we see it.  Whether you want to be a meter reader or a astronaut the effort you put forth in reaching your goals will determine success.  Some may measure success in financial terms, some may consider success about happiness, and other may measure success based on the number of people they help.  The level of success is not important it is how you get their that counts.

If your goal in life is to be cash rich and to get there you had to steal, cheat, and kill are you successful.  Most would say know, but if your goal was cash you were successful.  Everybody measures success in a different way , but I think to be truly successful in life we must set attainable goals.  We need to do our part to give back to the less fortunate.  We need to understand we had help (God, Parents, Friends, Etc.).  Humility will go a long way never forget all people deserve respect.  A true measure of success is leading a fulfilled life, setting attainable goals and achieving them in a moral and ethical way.

We should not measure our success based on the success of other because to do so would imply that there is a level playing field.  The fact is life is not fair some people have more money, intelligence, beauty, etc. so to measure success based on others will ensure disappointment.  A successful life is a life worth living, a life we are proud of and makes us happy.  Trying to achieve a goal for the wrong reason is pointless.  Doing something because we feel it is expected of us does not make us feel like a success, and definitely is not the way to get happiness.

I have learned that success can sometimes make us forget were we came from and how we got there if you are not careful you can lose sight of your rise and what it took to get there.  Success is not indefinite circumstances change, people change, and our wants/needs change.  Successful people have to work to get there and work to maintain.  If you feel good about were you are in life, you have tried, and you do what is right you can consider yourself a success regardless of the outcome.  Successful people live fulfilled lives, help others to be successful, and realize that the success does not mean superior.

Mistakes-Precious Life Lessons

"Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from."

Al Franken, "Oh, the Things I Know", 2002

Mistake-An error or fault resulting from defective judgment, deficient knowledge,  carelessness or an error or blunder in action, opinion, or judgment.  Mistakes are a part of life, they define our character and determine our path. It is the mistakes we made that got us here. Instead of being ashamed of mistakes or poor judgement I say embrace them to better our future. Acknowledgement of our past and the ability to learn to better our future is paramount in leading a fulfilled life.

The mistakes we made as children and young adults are valuable tools. We could push them aside and act like life was perfect, or we can own our mistakes and share them with our children. To Change The World we must first learn from our mistakes and educate our children so they don't repeat the same carelessness or error.

Parents instill values in their children and teach them right from wrong it is inevitable that we as parents will make mistakes, learning how to avoid future mistakes determines the value.  Without mistakes life would be consistent, excitement would be null, and outcome would be predictable.  An unintentional act, omission, or error resulting from ignorance, surprise, or misplaced confidence demonstrates that you are living.

Every risk we take is a potential mistake the key is to minimize mistakes by proper research and thought.  The fact is a no mistakes (perfect life) is not only unrealistic but would also be free of excitement  and growth.  Without the hope for better days we are saying life is as good as it gets, I could not imagine what life would be like if I hit my peak and it was down hill.  Hopes and dreams keep me going and to achieve them I no that the willingness to make mistakes is essential.

Parents are given the responsibility to raise a productive member of society.  Why let your children make the same mistakes we made?  We may feel embarrassed, ashamed,  or less than perfect.  The appearance of greatness in the eyes of our children is a feeling that does not compare.  True greatness come with the ability to acknowledge our faults and share them with our loved ones.  If we could all put forth a bit of effort change could happen and quickly.
